Originally from Connecticut, Benjamin Zucker joined Maui Prep in 2015, after two years of teaching science at the Winchendon School in northern Massachusetts. He holds a bachelor’s degree in applied mathematics (with a minor in French) from Johns Hopkins University, where he spent roughly as much time in the theater as in the library.

Ben believes that breadth of knowledge and variety of experience are critical to a full life. Accordingly, he has worked as a substitute teacher in public schools, an educational writer, an egg salesman, and several other (less fun) jobs. The flexibility and freedom offered by the independent-school environment allow Ben to share his various interests with young people: from physics to French to theater and beyond. He prefers to have his students doing something as opposed to simply sitting and listening, whether it be replicating Galileo’s experiments with gravity, producing their own commercials, or using graphs to tell stories.

In his free time, Ben likes to bike, swim, walk, read science fiction, explore Wikipedia, collect maps, and imagine absurd hypothetical scenarios.
